Restoring the Signature Canopy Towers of an American Stadium
Some projects are just painted. Others are engineered, planned, and executed at height with absolute precision.
Hard Rock Stadium is one of the most recognizable venues in professional sports. Its soaring canopy towers rise more than 300 feet above Miami Gardens, creating a structure that demands accuracy, coordination, and high-access expertise. When the towers required full restoration to preserve their signature white-silver finish, BASE Painters was selected to complete a Stadium Painting project that few teams in the country are qualified to perform.
The result was a nationally recognized restoration completed on schedule, without incident, in one of the most challenging environments in the United States.
Stadium Painting: High-Access Restoration at Hard Rock Stadium
Working hundreds of feet above South Florida required the crew to navigate severe humidity, fast-moving storms, and constant coastal air exposure. These conditions demanded a precise schedule, continuous monitoring of surface temperatures, and strict control of application windows.
Traditional lifts and scaffolding could not reach the towers. BASE Painters designed a redundant rope-access plan with multiple fall-protection points to move safely and efficiently across the structure. The team also coordinated with stadium management to perform all work between scheduled events, ensuring that operations below remained uninterrupted.
This was more than a repaint. It was a high-access preservation project on a broadcast-visible, internationally known venue.
Execution: Precision at Every Height
Surface preparation was completed to SSPC-SP2 Hand Tool Cleaning standards to remove corrosion and loose coatings. Painters used 4,000 psi Mi-T-M pressure washers and specialized grinders to establish a stable substrate capable of holding a long-life coating system.
A two-layer Sherwin-Williams system followed:
Corothane MiO-Aluminum Urethane Primer
Sher-Loxane 800 Topcoat
Coatings were applied with Purdy brushes and 4 to 6 inch rollers to achieve complete coverage across every angle of the canopy towers. The crew held daily safety meetings, used drone inspections to verify anchor points, and relied on real-time weather tracking to maintain productivity and protection at elevation.

Results: A Stadium Landmark Restored
The canopy towers were fully restored, returning Hard Rock Stadium to its clean, bright finish and extending the lifespan of the structure. The project was completed on schedule, without safety incidents, and earned national industry recognition for excellence in high-access Stadium Painting.
